Highlights from 2009

The Uses of SadnessMarch also saw the publication of Karen Masman's wonderful little book The Uses of Sadness. As Karen shows in her book, feeling sad can be good for you as it provides time to reflect on our lives, fine tune, change direction and much, much more.

Secrets of a Bulletproof SpiritAzim Khamisa founded the Tariz Khamisa Foundation following the death of his son in 1995. The subsequent forgiveness movement has reached millions as has Jillian Quinn through her work at the Interfaith Temple in New York City. In Secrets of a Bulletproof Spirit, published in April, they show that people with super resilience don't have better luck or better karma, they think differently.

Amazing Encounters with Those Who Have Passed OverApril also saw the publication of Georgina Walker's second book, Amazing Encounters with Those Who Have Passed Over. Packed with real-life encounters with those who have passed over, this heartwarming book was eagerly awaited by fans of Georgina's first book, Dearly Departed.

Star ParentingAlso much anticipated was Sherrynne Dalby's Star Parenting, published in May. In her book, Sherrynne, an astrologer and a mother of seven, helps parents understand the strengths and vulnerabilities of their child, and how to encourage and nurture them.

Screw Inner BeautyMay also saw the publication of Screw Inner Beauty by Kate Harding and Marianne Kirby. After years of being on the dieting rollercoaster - losing weight, putting it back on again, then dieting, and regaining the weight - these two smart, sassy women decided enough was enough. In their book they share how they quit starving themselves, came to like their bodies the way they are, and now live life with joy and pride.

The Power of SmallIt's the little things that count and in The Power of Small, published in June, Linda Kaplan Thaler and Robin Koval show how little acts of kindness and thoughtfulness can have far reaching, even life-changing consequences.

Happy Healthy KidsSeptember also saw the much awaited publication of Ian White's Happy Healthy Kids. The culmination of over 20 years work with Australian Bush Flower Essences, Ian's book covers a wide range of everyday ailments and also details how to handle a whole host of emotional challenges from shyness and lack of self-confidence, to aggression.

The Power of ForgivenessWhy do we find it so hard to forgive when doing so can be so liberating and freeing? Janise Beaumont decided it was time to forgive some past hurts and her book, The Power of Forgiveness, published in September, charts her progress. Honest, realistic, funny and poignant, this is a book for our times.

Turning the Me Generation into the We GenerationOctober saw the publication of Michael Ungar's Turning the Me Generation in the We Generation. In this, his second book with Allen & Unwin, Michael, an internationally respected family therapist shows how parents can raise socially engaged and responsible children.
